As the time is passing, the need to persuade students about the importance and usefulness of mathematics increases. The aim of the contribution is to highlight game theory as an outstanding opportunity to carry out (at least partly) this purpose: it handles problems which are closely related to the life of each of us and can be formulated in a very attractive manner. On the other hand, game theory leads mathematicians and technicians to such fields as ethology, evolutionary biology, law, ethics, socialand political sciences, etc., that would otherwise remain marginal for many of them.

Potřeba přesvědčit studenty o důležitosti a užitečnosti matematiky stále roste. Cílem příspěvku je zdůraznit teorii her jako výjimečnou příležitost k alespoň částečnému naplnění této potřeby: řeší problémy, které mají velmi úzký vztah k životu každého znás a mohou být formulovány atraktivním způsobem. Na druhé straně vede teorie her matematiky a techniky do takových oblastí jako je etologie, evoluční biologie, zákon, etika, společenské a politické vědy atd., které by jinak pro mnoho z nich zůstaly na okraji zájmu.
