Karel Zahradník (1848-1916) was a distinguished Czech mathematician, teacher and organizer of education. The main aim of this paper is to inform on his life and work in mathematics as well as in some other fields created in the Czech lands and Croatia. This paper is based on the documents about the Zahradník's life and work that are stored at the archives in the Czech Republic and Croatia. Some information was gathered from the family memoirs and memoirs of Zahradník's colleagues and friends.

Karel Zahradník (1848-1916) byl významným českým matematikem a pedagogem. Cílem tohoto článku je informovat o jeho životě, analyzovat jeho vědecké dílo v matematice a popsat jeho odborné i spolkové aktivity v Čechách a Chorvatsku. Práce je založena na studiu archívních materiálů uložených v ČR a Chorvatsku.
