Probabilistic and Deterministic Approach of Seismic Hazard Assessment- Comparison and Discussion of Results.
Original language description
The seismic hazard assessment of the selected locality for new nuclear facility is one of the essential steps of the process of seismic safety ensuring. Both of the approaches used in practice for seismic hazard assessment, i.e. deterministic and probabilistic, bring certain advantages but with regard to last Fukushima accident there are also questions for discussion. Deterministic method is more conservative, and therefore, forms the basis of design and licensing standards, the probabilistic one is used mainly for inspection and it is used for finding the realistic seismic hazard value determined by the deterministic approach, certainly from economic reasons. The paper describes both, the deterministic and the probabilistic approaches of seismic hazard assessment with a demonstration of example for the locality in the West of the Czech Republic. The approaches used for nuclear facilities were recommended by the IAEA.
