Transport System and Competition
Original language description
The division of labour in the transport system, or allocation of transport capacity among different modes of transport, is one of the key issues at hand and it is important to deal with it. Generally, it is mainly a question of what affects the divisionof labour. As already shown in the first chapter in the historical research, the technological development in the last 200 years in Europe contradicted mainly the road and rail transport. Fast acceleration of railways in the second half of 19th century and the development of road transport in the 20th century enabled business to development in many new parts of the world on the one hand. On the other hand, it raised questions of the impact the transport system made on the environment (externalities).
