The Human Factor and Its Handling

  • Original language description

Situations in which people find themselves and which individuals continually need to handle necessitate the making of decisions. Explanations of the motivations behind decision-making are given. The human factor is introduced: it is an aggregate of humanproperties, capabilities, and experiences that, in a given situation, has an influence on the safety, productivity, effectiveness, and reliability of the system in which it acts. It is evaluated from psychological, physiological, and physical viewpoints. Human errors/failures are also discussed, along with the benefits povided by the human factor. Finally, control of the human factor in management and engineering is discussed, in terms of safety culture and negotiation/trade-off with risks.
