Technology Readiness Levels and System Readiness Levels Issues in the Context of Their Using within the Security and Defence Research and Acquisition Processes
Original language description
The paper underlines the importance of the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) as a Technology and Project Management tool and measure used to assess the technical maturity of evolving technologies (equipment, devices, components, software, etc.) and projects during their research, development and in some cases during early operations by identifying risk associated with technology and system integration. The authors inform on the TRL definition and description and briefly introduce the history of TRL and their using in the NASA, defence departments (especially in the US DoD and UK MoD), as well as in international organizations (NATO, EU/EDA, ESA) frameworks. The authors introduce the TRLs application in the security/defence research and acquisition (armaments) areas. The other part of paper is dealing with information regarding the development of the System Readiness Levels (SRLs), their definition and implementation within the UK and US defence acquisitions processes.
