The well-known actinide extractant octyl (phenyl)-N,N-diisobutylcarbamoylmethylphosphine oxide (CMPO) has been loaded into sorbent granules using modified polyacrylonitrile (PAN) as an inert matrix. Extractant loading varied from 20 up to 33 wt.%. Thesematerials were then tested in dynamic column experiments to determine efficiency for removing selected actinides and lanthanides from acidic waste solutions. Breakthrough and regeneration curves were obtained using a simulated acidic waste solution spiked with lanthanide tracers. Kinetics and equilibrium behaviour of the composite sorbent is discussed.
