Original language description
The effect of microstructure on fracture of high carbon hypo eutectoid steel has been studied under conditions of quasistatic and dynamic loading. Experimentally found sets of fracture toughness and Charpy impact energy values have been statistically treated in order to find relationship between fracture toughness and Charpy impact energy. Detailed Scanning Electron Microscopy examination of fractured specimens has been carried out and mechanisms of cleavage initiation have been revealed from fractographical investigation of fracture surfaces.
