Spatial Distribution of Neutrons in the Pb/U Assembly Irradiated by Relativistic Protons and Deuterons - Systematics of Experimental Results
Original language description
We studied the spatial and energetic distributions of neutrons produced by spallation reactions at different places around and inside the "Energy plus transmutation" installation, consisting of a thick lead target and uranium blanket surrounded by polyethylene shielding. Such set-up was irradiated by relativistic protons and deuterons of different energies from 0.7 GeV up to 2.5 GeV using JINR Dubna Nuclotron. The activation detectors were used for neutron field determination. The comparison between experimental and simulated production rates of many threshold reactions makes it possible to test the accuracy of the description of neutron production by MCNPX code in the wide neutron energy interval. We studied also the relative dependency of total neutron production on beam energy using homogeneous field of epithermal and resonance neutrons produced by the polyethylene shielding.
