Avalanche photodiode single- and several-photon detection study
Original language description
The goal of presented study is to recognize the dependences of avalanche breakdown pulses on number of detected photons and also on operational and quenching conditions of avalanche photodiode. The existing photon counter use the difference in avalanchebreakdown inherently, only as a initiating signal for time delay compensation. Using obtained informations we are intent to prepare new version photon counter providing more precise information about number of detecting photons or fi ltering detection event depending up selected photon number. For fi rst experiments has been selected silicon single photon sensitive avalanche photodiode with diameter up to 200 um and very high homogeneity of active area. The possibility of direct current measurement is conditioned by availability of 8GHz, 40GS/s sampling oscilloscope. As the optical signal source with near-Poisson photon number distribution has been used attenuated diode laser with pulse with 35 picoseconds at 735 nm.
