    Quantitative Aspects of Microstructure Formation in Solidification

  • Original language description

    For the modelling of microstructure growth in metal solidification the modified anisotropic phase-field model is used. The numerical algorithm is based on finite-difference spatial discretization together with the higher-order time solvers. Numerical analysis of the discrete scheme justifies the use of the model in the description of the pattern formation in solidification. A series of qualitative studies demonstrating ability of the model is presented. A special attention is paid to the implementationissues such as handling of high CPU-cost parts of the code and parallelization. As a quantitative result, we present the convergence studies for the dendritic growth.
