Original language description

Textural fractography is a new method of quantitative fractography of fatigue fractures. While conventional methods are based on traces of crack front (striations and beach lines), the source of information of the textural method is image texture in SEMimages of fracture surface. Images are described by numerical characteristics - image textural features. The relation between image features and crack growth rate is analyzed by methods of multivarite statistics (multilinear regression, testing of significance). The final model enables the reconstitution of the history of a fatigue crack from fracture surface, also in cases when striations or beach lines are not perceptible. The software TexFrac offers a set of user-friendly windows for all steps, frompre-processing of images and input data up to a graphical presentation of the final model. Two types of textural features are supported - spectral and wavelet.
