The aperiodic rigorous coupled wave analysis method has shown itself very efficient and reliable algorithm for simulations of photonic structures. Several our recent extensions (e.g. Bloch modes, full anisotropy) as well as selected applications to bothmagnetooptics and plasmonic structures is described and critically assessed.
