Electrodynamics of (Nd,Eu,Gd)Ba2Cu3Oy single crystals
Original language description
We studied infrared reflectivity of two single-crystalline (Nd,Eu,Gd)Ba2Cu3Oy superconductors at temperatures from 300 to 10 K and at frequencies from 35 to 8000 cm-1. The crystals had the same nominal Nd content and differed in the Eu and Gd content. The crystal with excess of Gd exhibited much more pronounced middle-infrared band and phonon lines than the second crystal. This was consistent with significantly lower charge-carrier concentration in the crystal which led to weaker screening of the phonons and the middle-infrared band. The concentration was determined from the simple Drude model. We also performed the one-component analysis of the reflectivity. The analysis revealed that the Gd-rich crystal optical response comes from bound and free charge carriers whereas the Eu-rich crystal response originates from interacting carriers which are neither free nor bound.
