Effect of Sol-Gel Modifications on Characteristics of Silica Spherical Microresonators
Original language description
The paper deals with the preparation and characterisation of whispering-galery-mode (WGM) spherical microresonators modified by thin xerogel layers. Microspheres with diameters around 330 nm have been prepared by melting a tip of silica fiber with a hydrogen-oxygen burner. The microspheres were modified by a thin silica xerogel layer using tetraethoxysilane-based sol. Resonance spectra of the microspheres were measured when WGMs were excited by a fiber taper. Q factors of the microspheres ranging from 104-106 have been determined from the resonance spectra. Shifts of resonance dips caused by acetone vapors have been observed.
