DEVELOPMENT OF DISTRIBUTED FIBER OPTIC SENSOR OF AMMONIA GAS
Original language description
This contribution is focused on the development of ammonia distributed fiber-optic sensors which make the accurate location of ammonia gas leaks along fiber length possible. The system consists of the sensing optical fiber working as a chemo-optical absorption-based transducer and an interrogating OTDR unit. Detection of variations of the fiber optical output caused by changes in evanescent optical absorption within a particular interval of wavelengths is a spectroscopic principle of these sensors and it is combined with a target-specific chemical reaction between gaseous ammonia and a proper reagent. Organo-metallic complex dyes with different lengths of lateral aliphatic chains are tested with respect to several optical and technologically importantfeatures.
