Original language description
The goal of this chapter is to provide fundamentals of solid state lasers used in medical applications. After a brief introduction the fundamental properties of solid state laser active media are described. The main part of this chapter contains the description of solid state laser system, its pumping and cooling, modes of operation, and emission wavelength control, including a nonlinear conversion of radiation. In following part, the detailed description of selected solid state laser types used in medical application is given. At the end of this chapter some novel solid state lasers construction and materials are described.
