Temperature Influence on Diode Pumped Dy:PGS Laser
Original language description
The active medium temperature influence on the diode-pumped Dy:PbGa2S4 laser, operating at 4.3um spectral region, was investigated. The dependencies of laser output power amplitude on incident pumping power amplitude were measured together with the laseremission wavelength and laser threshold power and corresponding slope efficiency were calculated. From the results it follows that the temperature of the active medium has strong influence mainly on laser threshold (more than 7 times lower threshold power corresponds to temperature 80 K in respect to 300 K) and emission wavelength, which was shifted about 60 nm. The highest slope efficiency (1.9% in respect to incident power) was obtained for temperature 200 K. It can be summarized that even the cryogenic cooling increases the complexity of the system, the intense cooling of Dy:PGS crystal can improve overall efficiency and also tune the laser emission wavelength.
