Abstract?The paper deals with the investigation of multiphase equilibrium of CO2-H2O system at constant volume, temperature and moles (the so-called V T-flash), which is motivated by topical problem of CO2 sequestration. Studying CO2-H2O mixture under natural geological conditions (pressures typically below 50 MPa and temperatures typically 298 ? 383 K) for different system composition, two-phase and three-phase states were observed. Recently, we have developed a fast and robust algorithm for constant-volume two-phase split calculation, which is based on the direct minimization of the total Helmholtz free energy of the mixture with respect to the mole- and volume-balance constraints. The algorithm uses modified Newton-Raphson minimization method. To initialize the algorithm, an initial guess is constructed using the results of constant-volume stability testing.
