Enumeration of static and dynamic neutron consumption d-factor for several selected reactors at equilibrium closed fuel cycle
Original language description
Transmutation capability of a reactor can be assessed by several methods. Often the equilibrium cycle or the isotope-wise neutron consumption D, or actually D-factor, methods are used. The equilibrium closed fuel cycle represents inherent core state related to the selected recycling and refueling strategy and given neutron spectrum. It characterizes not only the core transmutation capability but also its breeding potential. The D-factor is defined as a total neutron consumption or production which is necessary to ultimately fission one atom of selected actinide isotope, when accounting for all its reaction and for all its daughter products. It will be shown in this paper that also the D-factor can be used to assess breeding potential of the reactor and that it has in some cases similar properties as the equilibrium cycle method. Furthermore, the dynamic D-factor will be defined and simulated for 16 selected reactor lattices.
