Investigation of double beta decay prosecces using spectrometers OBELIX and TGV
Original language description
The PhD thesis is devoted to the investigation of double beta decay processes with germanium spectrometers OBELIX and TGV-2. One of the setups used in our investigations of rare nuclear decays is the low-background high sensitive HPGe spectrometer called OBELIX. It was developed in collaboration of IEAP CTU in Prague (Czech Republic), JINR Dubna (Russia) and LSM Modane (France). The main purposes of this spectrometer are the investigations of two-neutrino double beta decay to excited states of daughter nuclei and resonance neutrino-less double electron capture. OBELIX is also useful tool for the measurements of radioactive contamination of enriched isotopes, selection of low-background materials for construction of underground facilities or sensitive measurements of environmental samples. A new original method of the efficiency calibration of the OBELIX detector for the low-background measurements was developed. Search for 2νββ decay of 100Mo to excited states of 100Ru was performed with the OBELIX spectrometer and the half-lives of these processes were obtained. Short investigation of double beta decay of 58Ni was also performed with the OBELIX spectrometer resulting new experimental limits for these rare decay modes. Another setup used in our investigations was the TGV-2 (Telescope Germanium Vertical) spectrometer. The TGV-2 experiment is devoted to the search for double beta decay processes (β+β+, β+EC, EC/EC) of 106Cd. It is common activity of IEAP CTU in Prague (Czech Republic); JINR, Dubna (Russia) and CSNSM, Orsay (France). The description of the spectrometer, the methods used for the suppression of background, data processing and analysis, and the main results obtained in the frame of Phase II and the first stage of current Phase III of the experiment TGV-2 are presented in the thesis.
