Cryogenic Cooled Er:YAlO3 Laser
Original language description
The tested sample Er:YAlO3 (1 % concentration of Er/Y) is appropriate for emission of laser radiation at laser transition 4I13/2->4I15/2. The laser rod crystal. During spectroscopy and laser experiments the active medium was attached to the temperature-controlled copper holder and was placed in a vacuum chamber. The absorption and emission spectra of Er:YAlO3, and the fluorescence decay time were measured in dependence on temperature (80 - 300 K). The fluorescence decay time was measured to be 4.84 ms and 4.11 ms at 80 K and 300 K, respectively. Longitudinal excitation of Er:YAlO3 was carried out by a fibre-coupled laser diode. The Er:YAlO3 laser properties were investigated at temperature range of 80 - 300 K but the laser generation was observed only below 180 K. The emission laser wavelength was stable with a value of 1623 nm. From the results it follows that the emission of Er:YAlO3 laser, diode-pumped at 1461 nm, was significantly dependent on temperature of its active medium.
