Original language description
Accident Tolerant Fuels have been on high interests of researchers, utilities, international organizations and universities for last several years. There have been many concepts developed around the world with a different time of potential employment in commercial reactors. The cladding coating is considered as a near-term concept that can be inserted into a commercial reactor in less than 5 years. There are many coatings and deposition techniques studied around the world. One of the most promising coating materials is chromium thanks to its high corrosion resistance and compatibility with current Zirconium alloys. The cold spray technique is a young technology with a promising future. Chromium was deposited using cold-spray on different Zirconium substrates and several experiments were performed to study its performance during normal and accident conditions. Preliminary results of fuel performance models will be also presented.
