We discuss the implementation of a 3D numerical model capable of simulating filamentation and supercontinuum generation by solving the propagation equation for ultrashort pulses. The choice of propagation equation is examined while paying special attention to terms describing plasma generation and ionization rates, while maintaining good performance of the code for parameter scanning. The model is then used to analyze the stability of supercontinuum, the dependence on input parameters and the propagation dynamics. We also examine a passive method of stabilizing the peak intensity of input pulses and the effect of using these stabilized pulses as pump for supercontinuum generation.
