Resonant ultrasound characterization of spark plasma sintered composites
Original language description
This contribution demonstrates the applicability of laser-based resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS) for characterizing several types of composite materials prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique. Anisotropic elastic properties of graphene- based composites are determined from resonant spectra of small samples, showing how the preferential orientation of graphene fillers strongly affects the macroscopic properties of such materials. Besides that, elastic properties of metal-matrix composites are measured up to 740 °C, where the RUS method also detects the activation energy of some temperature-activated processes, such as ductile-to-brittle transition.
