    Widely tunable Tm3+:LuF3-CaF2 diode pumped laser

    The thulium doped laser media operating on 3F4 - 3H6 transition are important sources of laser radiation in 1.8 - 2μm spectral range with applications in atmospheric remote sensing, high-resolution spectroscopy, laser radar and medicine. This high possibility of applications stimulates research on thulium solid state lasers and search for new host materials. Fluorides are promising Tm-doped laser hosts, characterized by shorter phonon spectra compared to oxides, resulting in much weaker multiphonon relaxation allowing to obtain oscillations with a high optical efficiency. In this work we investigated spectroscopic and laser properties, and tunability of new fluoride solid solution crystal Tm3+:LuF3-CaF2.
