Subcritical Reactor VR-2 and Its Control System

  • Original language description

The paper focuses on the control system of the VR-2 subcritical reactor. The VR-2 reactor it is a new nuclear facility designed and built at the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU). It is subcritical assembly driven by external neutron source. The design of the VR-2 reactor precludes the achievement of a criticality, thus the reactor does not feature any safety systems preventing the uncontrolled nuclear fission. The reactor shutdown is simply based on stopping the neutron production from the external neutron source. The main task of the reactor control system is thus to control, monitor, and when necessary, safely stop of the neutron production from the neutron source. The safety class components of the control system were developed and supplied by SKODA JS and dataPartner based on the requirements and specifications by CTU. The information part of the control system was completely designed, developed, and realized by CTU.
