On a Class of 2-Balanced Sequences
Original language description
We define a new class of ternary and quaternary sequences that are 2-balanced. These sequences are obtained by colouring of Sturmian sequences. We provide an upper bound on factor and abelian complexity of these sequences. In case of ternary sequences, the factor complexity is at most quadratic, in case of quaternary sequences, at most cubic. We state a conjecture on conditions guaranteeing the maximal complexity and support our conjecture by computer experiments. Furthermore, we focus on a particular ternary 2-balanced sequence obtained by colouring of the Fibonacci sequence. To describe its factor complexity we determine the number of factors of the Fibonacci sequence sharing the same Parikh vector. We deduce a formula based on expansion of integers in a particular non-standard numeration system.
