Contemporary approach to urban planning is dynamic. Flexible and multi layered, it lefts the rigid planning methods of the Athens Charter behind. The basic principles of this approach derive from the dynamic processes of the society and were summarized in 10 main points in Barcelona Metápolis. The flexibility of the process as a tool for the controlled development is a big topic of the parametric design approach, which is a main research theme of this paper. The main idea is in an assertion that designmust be a continuous evolutionary response to a complex environment of urban conditions. Christopher Alexander, a mathematician and an architect, who was one of the first to introduce a concept of generative urbanism, summarizes this shift.
