European Habitat Parallel Event - V4 Forum on Future of Housing Estates

  • Original language description

V4 Forum on Future of Housing Estates & Book Launch Party of a publication “Housing Estates, What’s Next?” The V4 Forum on Future of Housing Estates was organized by the Faculty of Architecture of The Czech Technical University in Prague in cooperation with European Habitat organizer the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic. On the Forum took part specialists from different European, mainly the V4, countries (A. Kantarek, Poland, L. Vitkova, Slovakia, A. Szabó, Hungary, S. Kabisch and M. Harnack from Germany as well as D. Tichý, F. Tittl and M. Kohout and J. Sklenář from the hosting organizations). The topic of the conference, Housing estates, represents areas not only in Czech Republic, but as well in the whole region of central Europe. Looking for possibilities of future regeneration of these localities represents one of the most important challenges of local spatial planning and urban management. Lectures and discussion were mainly focused on these questions: How to transform housing estates into successful flourishing neighbourhoods? How to reduce the threat of social decline, and what experiences and good practices do we have in different countries of central-Europe to share? Part of the event was also a Book Launch of a publication “Housing Estates, What’s Next?”. The publication summarizes the results of a research project of the same name, which searches for conditions of long-term sustainability of housing estates and for possible ways of their adaptation and revitalization. The book presents 18 model case studies and two pilot projects of housing-estates regeneration which illustrate the proposed strategies.
