European Habitat - PARALLEL EVENT Public spaces – planning and management

  • Original language description

Parallel Evevnt of the international conference European Habitat was organized together with Prague Planning Institute. Topic of the Event, Public space, plays an essential role in creating vibrant communities as well as habitable urban environment. It provides space for urban life, increases social cohesion and express identity of neighborhoods. The UN includes public space in its Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable). There are many examples of well-designed public spaces across Europe, good practices to be shared. But the systemic approach to public spaces organization in neighborhood and city level is yet not usually implemented in planning and decision making processes. What are the planning strategies for quality public spaces? What is the role of municipalities in management and planning regarding public spaces? What should be carefully planed and what ad hoc negotiated within local communities? These questions has been discused by invatied experts.
