Smartphone Application for Long-term Urban Lifestyle and Mobility Monitoring
Original language description
The mobility of people can be monitored using a simple smartphone application that maps their movement. Sensors in smartphones are a low-cost source of information which can be interpreted and subsequently used as a dynamic indicator of urban life. By using this wide spread and accessible tool, we can collect data about the lifestyle in urban structures. However, it is necessary to develop an appropriate marketing strategy for a successful acquisition of the data. We can gain access to the data through crowdsourcing or by offering attractive and gripping benefits. The data could be used for intelligent and smart urban planning, as well as for commercial and marketing strategies. The proposed application “UrbanFit” for Android-based smartphones introduces an innovative technology, which monitors the daily exercise habits and caloric consumption of individuals through smartphone sensors. The UrbanFit is designed as a long-term source of mobility data for the Czech Republic.
