Electrical Impedance Tomography Confirms Improvement of Lung Aeration and Ventilation in Spontaneously Breathing Pigs During HFOV

  • Original language description

The animal study in pigs deals with the effects of spontaneous breathing upon lung aeration during high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV). The spontaneous breathing during HFOV was maintained by using the demand flow system. Electrical impedance tomography was used for regional lung aeration evaluation. Results show that lung volume is preserved by spontaneous breathing during HFOV in a porcine model of mild lung injury.
