Future challenges for eHealth concept implemented in social care services in the Czech Republic

In recent years the healthcare costs in the Czech Republic rapidly increased. In 2007 there was expenditure of state budget approx. 22,5 mld. CZK for social care services. A high potential for future can be seen especially in certain sophisticated technology applications, which represents as well an important topics for HTA analysis. The scientific field so called Telematik has opened up a lot of new opportunities for healthcare. New product ideas like Senior Inspect (a commertial solution of a team connected with FBME CTU) are already established in clinical praxis, but there is only of about 3000 telecare users in Czech Republic. According to the market research of e-prescription and telemonitoring services, these are still not fully used. A short introduction is given regarding the eHealth approach in the Czech Republic, and challenges based on the TEN-HMS project focused on telemonitoring of patients with heart failure.
