Cost-effectiveness analyses are widely used in health technology assessment. The effects are often expressed in quality-of-life terms that represent individual?s preferences for specific health-related outcomes. The standardized MSQoL-54 questionnaire developed for multiple sclerosis (MS) patients consists of a generic part taken from SF-36, and a specific part focused particularly on health distress, sexual function, cognitive functions, energy, pain, and social function in MS patients. The survey of 237 MS patients showed that QoL depends on the type of MS (relapsing-remitting 0.689; secondary progressive 0.545; primary progressive 0.616; progressive-relapsing 0.478). The most important problems affecting QoL in MS patients were identified to be thecharacter, fatigue, changes in health, anxiety and depression, ignorance of the disease by the patient, and uninformed people around.
