Mechanical and Antibacterial Behavior of TiO2 Thin Films Prepared by PLD
Original language description
In this study, we focused on the mechanical and antibacterial properties of titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films used as antibacterial coating for medical use. We studied thin layers prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Prepared layers were amorphous, anatase or rutile phase all prepared at room temperature or temperature under 150°C. Some of the layers were prepared in RF discharge. Used substrates were silicon Si(111). Crystallinity of the layers was tested by XRD. Antibacterial effectiveness wastested by gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli and gram positive bacteria Bacillus subtilis. Tested mechanical properties of the layers were hardness and adhesion. The layers thickness ranged from one to five micrometers. We tested adhesion propertiesby two techniques based on scratch tests. One instrument was for micro and one for macro adhesion. Hardness of the samples was evaluated by nanoscelorometric head, which is an extension of atomic force microscope. The results were compar
