High fluence low-power laser effect in gamma-irradiated mice
Original language description
As known, gamma rays are biologically hazardous type of ionizing radiation. They can be used with therapeutic and diagnostic aim, but the risk of dying from the consequences of such radiation increases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of consistent ionizing and non-ionizing radiation on the lifespan and the blood cell counts (BCCs) in mice. Two hundred nineteen mice were divided into six groups. The first group was control, mice in the second one were irradiated with gamma radiation only (8.7 Gy). Mice in other four groups were irradiated both with gamma radiation and high fluency low-power laser (different wavelength and final energy). In each group we used one part of mice for analysis of the lifespan, other mice were killed on the 12th day after gamma irradiation, and the numbers of the BCCs were counted. On the 12th day mice treated the 1064-nm laser had 10-54 % less counts of white blood cells (WBCs), lymphocytes, neutrophils and monocytes than in the gr
