Capillary Discharge Plasma as a Source of Soft X-ray Radiation (Simulation and Theory)

  • Original language description

The presented thesis is based on a theoretical study of capillary discharge plasma as a source of coherent radiation on Balmer ? transition from level n = 3 to n = 2 of hydrogen-like ions (boron, carbon, and nitrogen). We have employed two codes, namelyNpinch and RHMD Z*, based on magneto-hydrodynamic equations and FLY code based on kinetic equilibrium equations. The theory of three-body recombination process in capillary discharge plasma has been reviewed as well as physical equations used in Npinch code which was mainly used for our simulations. In this thesis, our obtained results are organized into four main parts: 1) Optimization of all capillary discharge parameters with aim to maximize gain on Balmer ? transition from level n = 3 to n = 2 of hydrogen-like ions (boron, carbon, and nitrogen) in non ablating regime. 2) Capillary wall ablation and its influence on plasma dynamics and possible gain. 3) Optimization of all capillary discharge parameters in ablating regime. 4) Pre-ion
