Laser ablation as an alternative pharmacological treatment of cardiac arrhythmia
Original language description
Catheter ablation is now becoming an accepted method and is the basis of non-pharmacological therapy in patients refractory to pharmacologic therapy. When using them, although there is the removal of tissue within the desired range, but raising the temperature in the surrounding tissue may be too high. Such heating may lead to permanent damage to healthy surrounding tissue, depending on the temperature reached and the time of exposure. The temperature is measured during the procedure in the esophagus and when exceeding a certain critical value, the procedure immediately interrupted. One possibility of avoiding prolonged excessive heat, the use of pulsed lasers, in which a suitable choice of the repetition rate occurs dissipation of thermal energy to such an extent that an undesirable heating from happening.
