    Prospective for Design Criteria based on Acceptable Risks

    Current approaches to verification of structural reliability are based on the concept of target probability of failure. However, this value is generally specified on the basis of comparative studies and past experience. Moreover, traditional probabilistic approach can not properly consider gross errors and accidental situations , both becoming every year more and more frequent causes of failure. Submitted study shows that it is purposeful to supplement probabilistic investigation by risk analysis and assessment, which can take into account consequences of all unfavourable events.It is anticipated that future design procedures would include criteria of acceptable risks in addition to the traditional probabilistic conditions.
