Controlling Volume Changes of Hydrating Cement

  • Original language description

Sizable shrinkage is a typical feature of cementitious materials and it has a bearing on their hydration and desiccation processes. It is possible to eliminate the shrinkage, or to set volume changes at positive values (expansion), by using an appropriate combination of admixtures. The article covers a range of methods of expansion control and the influence of these interventions on the setting time and workability of the mixture and the mechanical characteristics of hardened paste.
