Reliability Elements for Assessment of Existing Bridges

  • Original language description

The design of existing bridges is affected by the reliability elements and detailing provided in the original national standards. Eurocodes are focused mainly on the design of new structures and supplementary rules are needed for verification of existingbridges. New Technical requirements TP (2010) developed within two year national research project can be used as operational document for verification of existing bridges and it may also be considered as background document for the development of a newEurocode. The values of partial factors for actions and material properties may be modified on the basis of required reliability level of a bridge and updated taking into account information obtained from inspection.
