Review of the ISO 2394 Reliability Basis of Structural Design

  • Original language description

The International Standard ISO 2394 plays a key role in standardized structural engineering design based on principles of reliability. This paper reviews the way in which the 1998 version should be updated to incorporate advances in the field, as reflected in related ISO and other standards. By basing the principles of reliability on risk management, coherent presentation of provisions for structural performance, optimised reliability levels and differentiation; proper classification of design situations and limit states, including accidental situations, structural integrity and robustness, could be achieved.
