Theoretical Basis of the Target Reliability

  • Original language description

The target reliability levels provided in various national and international documents are inconsistent. The recommended reliability indexes are usually given for one or two reference periods (1 year and 50 years), without an explicit link to the designworking life. The contribution attempts to clarify the relationship between the required reliability index and the design working life and to provide guidance for specifications of the target reliability level for given consequences, design working lifeand discount rate.
