Assessment of Causes of a Bridge Downfall Using Bayesian Network
Original language description
Forensic investigation concerning collapse causes of a bridge downfall was complicated. The background materials of the investigation were mostly limited to photographic documentation and few witnesses. Additional detailed structural analyses of the bridge under temporary design situation did not reveal any convincing evidence. Critical consideration of all possible causes including aerodynamic effects supplemented by a causal (Bayesian) network finally resulted in identification of the most significantcauses including insufficient foundation and overall stiffness of temporary supports.
