Probabilistic Assessment of Working Life for Bridges
Original language description
The reliability and remaining working life of an existing reinforced concrete bridge is assessed using probabilistic methods of structural reliability. The time dependent deterioration of the bridge due to the uniform and pitting corrosion is analyzed. The initial reliability of the bridge with respect to the crack width seems to satisfy the required target level recommended in EN 1990 and Model Code 2010, but the reliability index significantly decreases with the reduction of the area of reinforcementcaused by corrosion. The probabilistic methods of structural reliability are proposed to be used in the assessment of the crack width limits and the remaining working life of existing bridges.
