Climatic actions due to wind and snow are commonly expressed as products w = Cwv 2? / 2 and s = Cssg. Four types of theoretical models are considered for the involved random variables: three parameter lognormal distribution LN3(,,), three parameter Weibull distribution WB3(c1, c2, xinf), general extreme value distribution GEV(k, , ) and Gumbel distribution GU(, ), which is a special case of GEV(k, , ) for k = 0 and = 1.14. Using the available data, it is shown that the 50-year maxima of w and s have coefficients of variation around 0.2 and 0.3, and a skewness of about 0.6 and 1.3 respectively. It appears that the wind pressure w and snow load s can be best described by LN3(,,) or lower bounded WB3(c1, c2, xinf) distribution. Further research should beprimarily focused on the time invariant components Cs and Cw.
