Application of UHPC Joints in Bridge Construction – Experimental Testing
Original language description
The excellent mechanical properties of UHPC have to be used economically. The joints of precast slabs of composite beams represent one of the possibilities of efficient use o UHPC. Small dimensions of joints are possible because of excellent bond between reinforcing steel and UHPC. The stress concentrations which appear in the joint due to interaction of longitudinal bending, transversal bending and shear may be also successfully transferred by UHPC joints. Tests executed on the different models made of UHPC were focused on verification of the function of UHPC joints. Three groups of tests were carried out. 1. Measurement of bond, 2. Simple bending tests on precast slabs with the joint and finally 3. Tests of composite beams. The behaviour of the beams with precast slab with the joint and the behaviour of classical beams with cast in situ slabs were compared. Satisfactory performance of all models with UHPC joints was found.
