DETERMINATION OF FIBER-CEMENT PANELS DEGRADATION BY A SOAKING-DRYING TEST
Original language description
The article deals with setting of the degradation of fibre-cement panels containing polyvinyl-alcohol (PVA) fibres. The degradation is being studied with a help of a soaking – drying test. It is a long-time test, which is one of the series of tests (hot water test, frost resistance test, shrinking of panels, UV test), by which the degradation of panels is determined. The motivation for carrying out this test lies in searching for a substitute of asbestos-cement panels that cannot be used due to carcinogenic asbestos fibres. The long-time researches worldwide were dealing with the substitute for asbestos fibres with glass ones. In the beginning excellent results were attained but after some decades (10 – 20 years) it was found that alkali- resistant glass fibre does not perform its function either. Therefore the article deals with examination of degradation of the panels containing the new type of PVA fibre. The purpose of the test was to set tensile strength when bending the tested fibre-cement panels that were exposed to a selected moisture cycle. The results were set from comparison of two sets of the tested panels: 1st set – unexposed tested panels after deposition in water of 20 ± 2 º C and the 2nd set - exposed tested panels after the cycle of 18 hours of deposition in water and 6 hours in a drying oven. The tests results showed that no degradation was observed at the plates containing PVA fibres
