Modelling and Analysis of Hydration Heat Causing Early Age Cracking in Massive Concrete Structures
Original language description
This paper focuses on the analysis of hydration heat in massive concrete structures. Firstly, it provides the numerical calculation of hydration heat evolution in the structure and the analysis of temperature differences between the core and the surface zone. Then, the nonlinear numerical analysis is performed in the program ATENA to simulate the formation of cracks in the structure. The analysis of early age cracking is verified by measurement on an experimental massive concrete block. An extensive parametric study is carried out to analyse the extreme conditions which could cause cracking of the surface in individual season. Recommendations on how the temperature difference could be reduced by proper curing resulted from the analysis.
